"Our hope and prayer now is that Governor Michael Rounds will sign this bill and send a clear message to the other states to affirm the dignity of life."

The Christian Newswire, yesterday, reported that the legislation to ban abortion in South Dakota passed in the state Senate, after a similar bill easily passed in the House. The measure will now go to South Dakota Governor Rounds to be signed into law.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director for the Christian Defense Coalition, commented, "We applaud the courage of the South Dakota legislature in voting to ban abortion and end this tragic violence against women an
d children. With several states waiting in the wings to ban abortion, momentum is clearly building nationwide to overturn Roe.

Polls are showing that more and more Americans are becoming uncomfortable with abortion and the overwhelming majority of our nation's young people feel abortion is ‘immoral'. Even Senator Hillary Clinton has stated abortion 'represents a tragic choice for many women.'"

"The optimism in the pro-life community also surged yesterday when the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case on banning partial-birth abortion," Mahoney added. "All of these things indicate that Roe is slowly, but surely, being chipped away at. Our hope and prayer now is that Governor Michael Rounds will sign this bill and send a clear message to the other states to affirm the dignity of life."
