Another State—this time Florida—Officially Apologizes for its History of Slavery

Aimee Herd (March 28, 2008)

"'All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing,' I think we are reminded of that today because it takes courage to do the right thing, and it's not always easy."

(Tallahassee, Florida)—This week Florida joined five other states in issuing an apology for the state's "shameful" history of slavery.

shacklesThe state legislature overwhelmingly passed a resolution that "expressed profound regret" for its role "in sanctioning and perpetuating involuntary servitude upon generations of African slaves."

Larry E. Rivers, author of Slavery in Florida noted that "from 1845 to 1860, it was one of the fastest-growing slave states in the union." Senator Anthony C. Hill Sr., of Jacksonville—one of several senators who had pushed for the resolution—said, "I think now we can begin the healing process of reconciliation."

Quoting the philosopher Edmund Burke, Governor Charlie Crist said, "'All that is necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.'" He added, "I think we are reminded of that today because it takes courage to do the right thing, and it's not always easy."

Abortion Leads the PAC

For Planned Parenthood, weighed down by new criminal charges and legal suits, the best defense seems to be a good offense. The organization is sinking $10 million into its PAC, hoping to load the Congress with abortion allies who would help protect--if not increase--its multi-million federal funding stream. The amount allocated for political races is triple what the organization has spent in past elections. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) is even wading into local politics, a scene it had previously ignored. NARAL Pro-Choice America and PPAF will spend a combined $20 million in the 2008 election cycle on contests for the House, Senate, and White House. Phill Kline, the former Kansas Attorney General who is leading an investigation into Planned Parenthood's legal violations, says, "They're trying to influence public policy in a way that allows them to continue what they're doing." With the congressional majority and U.S. Supreme Court in the balance, November's outcomes will have a significant impact on the future of Roe v. Wade. Another group that has promoted more than its share of radical, anti-life candidates, the National Education Association (NEA), found a new way to support the abortion cause by playing host to some of the movement's heaviest hitters at its headquarters last week. The NEA donated its facilities to an annual conference of the National Council of Women's Organization, a far-left group that counts among its members NOW, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the National Abortion Federation, the Center for Reproductive Freedom, and others. Equally shocking, the NEA shared its stage with notorious abortionist George Tiller, who has been charged with performing almost 20 illegal late-term abortions. Tiller, a target of Phill Kline's investigations, was honored with a standing ovation and given an opportunity to showcase photos of his gruesome work. To cap off his appearance, the Feminist Majority Foundation announced that it would devote its resources to keeping Tiller's Kansas clinic open. Since the NEA's role in the event became public, the group has struggled to defend itself. When asked by pro-life members why it serves as a revolving door for abortion activists, one NEA official said that it has always allowed "likeminded groups" to use the building. If you're a teacher who belongs to the NEA and are frustrated by how your dues fund the organization's radical political causes, please protest. Call the national headquarters at (202) 833-4000 and urge them to focus on education, not the pet causes of the leftwing elite. While you have the phone in your hand and are dialing Washington, don't forget to call the White House Comment Line at (202) 456-1414.

Urge President Bush to act
now on the proposal on his desk to end the meshing of federal Title X funds with abortion clinics. Urge him also to end the abortion referral mandate under Title X. There is no excuse for federal subsidies for the abortion industry.

Seeing Is Believing

In the past decade, ultrasound technology has succeeded in unmasking the lie of the abortion movement by offering a heart-changing window into the womb and revealing the personhood of humanity's smallest members. Seeing their children as living, feeling, and kicking babies, not "blobs of tissue," the number of moms who reconsider their decision to abort after having an ultrasound is staggering. To help dissuade more from aborting, pro-lifers have pushed to make the mere offer of an ultrasound universal in states. Six are working to ensure that women have the opportunity to take an honest look at their children before agreeing to abort them. In Ohio, a bill signed into law by Gov. Ted Strickland (D) on Friday will revoke a physician's license if he does not comply. A similar proposal is being debated in the Kentucky House, where a pro-life lawmaker is proposing a fine of $100,000 for any doctor who ignores the ultrasound mandate. In Florida and Oklahoma, the statehouses are considering comparable bills, while the Kansas House voted overwhelmingly to approve the same model as Ohio. For Missourians, the battle over ultrasound legislation has been complicated by pro-abortion House members who have tried repeatedly to divert attention away from the issue in hopes of killing it in committee. Although the Senate approved the bill, liberals continue to push back on a vote. If you live in any of the five states currently considering this important legislation, contact your leaders and insist that if women have the so-called "right" to choose, they have a right to know all of the facts first.

During this season of Passover, will you join us as we cry for mercy for our nation?

In 2008, America finds herself in a place similar to that of 1860…a nation laden with the guilt of her innocent dead. In the 1860’s, the issue was slavery. Today, we bear the guilt of 50 million unborn babies. The heart of the Lord is every bit as moved today as it was then.

Abraham Lincoln, speaking at his second inaugural address, drew a direct connection between the heart of God and the Civil War…

Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue . . . until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”

America is facing a dire crisis. If 600,000 men died in the battlefields of the Civil War-both north and south, black and white-for the shed blood of the slaves, then what will it mean to America-black and white and north and south-if God brings a day of reckoning for the shed blood of 50 million babies?

In the twilight hours before God’s most severe judgment on Egypt, the blood of the lamb applied to the doorpost caused judgment to “pass over” that home. Jesus is our Passover Lamb, and it is His blood that must be applied without delay to the doorposts of our national guilt.

On Saturday, April 26th Bound4LIFE and theCall will be mobilizing Christians to gather at supreme courts in all 50 states along with the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, DC. Would you answer this urgent call to prayer and join with thousands across the nation on this day when we will be holding a simultaneous Silent Siege of every Supreme Court? Coinciding with Passover, the purpose of this day will be to stand in silent prayer before the doors of our justice system and plead the blood of Jesus.

I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it. (Ez 22:30)

~Please join us April 26 ~ A day of national gathering!

~9AM to 4PM~ you don't have to be there for the entire day...come join us for an hour!

~The Vermont Supreme Court~ Represents the highest seat of Justice in VT!

~111 State Street, Montpelier~ where you can step over the line of personal silence & that of the church and stand in the gap on behalf of the unborn! ( parking behind the State offices & The Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center )

...as we apply the blood of Jesus... to the doorposts of our national sin and cry out for mercy and the ending of abortion!

We will also be having a Prayer Rumble the night B4 on April 25, location & time to be announced! I would also be glad to share more with churches & small groups! Please contact me to register, with questions & for more info. ~Glenn

If you hang around the Dream King,
You get into His dream stream,
You join yourself to His dream team,
And you do the Martin Luther King thing.

This was the poem of our heart when we launched the Justice House of Prayer (JHOP) in DC. A band of young people dared to dream and pray that another great move of justice would roll down like the waters of justice that swelled and swept away segregation in the days of that great prophet Martin Luther King, Jr. Now, once again, like the sound of many waters, God is shouting:

“I have a dream! Let the unborn go free! Let them be conceived in liberty, and let them be adopted in infancy.”

The Case Against Abortion: Medical Testimony

There is abundant medical evidence that life begins at fertilization, so much so that even the abortion industry cannot deny the claim...
