Rep. Smith, Did you say $335,000,000?

Mr. Smith, Did you say 290,000 unborn children a year are killed by America's largest abortion provider who receives... Did you say $335,000,000 (of our taxpayer Title X monies?)

Thank you Rep. Smith of NJ for speaking on behalf of the unborn! ~ Glenn

This is what Representative Chris Smith, who organized the Special Order, said in his speech Wednesday night:

"Can we trust Planned Parenthood? They say their vision is to be the Nation's most trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care. This is from an organization that targets minorities, that performs millions of abortions and barely even attempts to help women carry the babies to term. Reproductive health should include, not exclude, babies."
Even if the U.S. should pay for family planning, why should we subsidize the abortion industry?

This debate is not about family planning, it's about using abortion as a means of population control.

Nature's Miracle Substance: Umbilical Cord Blood

by Aimee Herd (July 12, 2008

It does not involve the killing of human embryos, and it has been used to treat over 60 diseases, including Leukemia, Sickle Cell Anemia and blood cancers. Umbilical cord blood contains wonder-working stem cells. But all too often this "miracle substance" is simply disposed of.

Cord bloodAccording to Dr. Elizabeth Shpall, head of the M.D. Anderson Cord Blood Bank, it is still a "vast majority" of women who do not realize what they are allowing to be thrown away when they don't allocate their newborn's umbilical cord blood to be donated.

Yet, this wonderfully stem-cell-rich substance has been used to successfully treat so many diseases. (Photo: ABC News)

Many pregnant women are simply not aware of the medical value and the opportunity for treatments that can come from donating the cord blood when their baby is born.

The fact is, umbilical cord blood could be the perfect, ethical alternative to using embryonic stem cells (which haven't really worked in trials anyway). Cord blood does not involve the killing of human embryos, and it has been used to treat over 60 diseases, including Leukemia, Sickle Cell Anemia and blood cancers. Umbilical cord blood contains wonder-working stem cells. But all too often this amazing substance is simply disposed of.

Calling cord blood a "medical miracle," Dr. Robert Jones, head of the New York Blood Center, noted that cord blood "has the same kinds of stem cells that are in bone marrow and can, in fact, substitute for bone marrow…for a patient who needs a bone marrow transplant."

According to the ABC News report, "As many as 10-thousand Americans each year could benefit from donated cord blood, but there is such a shortage that many will die waiting."

You are NOT TOO YOUNG!!

Amendment Takes on Life of Its Own

A young pro-life activist is giving the state's pro-lifers a reason to hope. Kristi Burton, an energetic 20-year-old Coloradan, didn't let her age stand in the way of launching a statewide "personhood" campaign. Last week, her efforts were rewarded on a ballot initiative that would define human beings as "persons" from the moment of conception.

Pro-Life Drugstores Rely on Large Doses of Conviction

In an era when faith can be a professional liability, a new trend in pharmacies is championing conscience. Pro-life drugstores are cropping up across the country to counter the growing pressure in the medical community to surrender religious and moral conviction in patient care. These pharmacies will resemble their counterparts with one major exception; they will not stock contraception or pill regimens like Plan B that can act as abortifacients. As states like Washington, California, New Jersey, and Illinois outlaw "conscience exemptions" for pharmacists, these pro-life drugstores may be the wave of the future. Although some decry the pharmacies as discriminatory, it is well within the proprietors' rights to adhere to a higher moral code than political correctness. If customers don't like it, they are free to take their business elsewhere. A spokeswoman for the National Women's Law Center claims that "[c]ontraception is essential for women's health... [This idea] could endanger women's health." On the contrary, what endangers women's health is the propaganda by Planned Parenthood and others that insists "emergency contraception" is safe, when it can and has caused serious side effects. The lack of contraception isn't killing any woman. Sexual promiscuity, on the other hand, is. We commend these drugstores for creating a safe environment for employees and consumers of moral and religious conviction.

Colorado for Equal Rights is a statewide grassroots organization of concerned citizens who value human life. Colorado for Equal Rights is sponsoring the Human Life Amendment to the Colorado constitution, stating "the term 'Person' or 'Persons' shall include any human from the time of fertilization."
