New Hampshire Committee Votes to Silence Parents

New Hampshire Committee Votes to Silence Parents
While nearly a dozen states debate laws that would expand parents' rights, the New Hampshire legislature is working overtime to undermine
them. Since 2003, the Granite State has had a parental notification law on the books, requiring at least one parent to be informed 48 hours before their minor daughter has an abortion. Planned Parenthood, concerned that the law would scare off business, challenged the measure in court on the grounds that it didn't include a health exemption for the mother. Ultimately, the suit landed in the U.S. Supreme Court, where, in January of last year, the justices reversed a ruling that had struck down the law. Now the state legislature is fighting to repeal the law, insisting that the government--not moms or dads--should be the ultimate authority on matters that affect children's health. Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee voted 12-5 in favor of abolishing a parents' right to know. From there, the measure will go before the full state House for a vote and, if successful, could be signed into law by Gov. John Lynch (D) as early as March. If the appeal passes, the court case is moot. When FRC attempted to alert our supporters in New Hampshire to the urgency of this issue, we were informed that unless our organization had a lobbyist registered in the state, we were forbidden from e-mailing New Hampshire voters. Obviously, the government is intent on silencing those that would expose their strategy to suppress parents on an issue as vital as teen abortion. In fact, some leaders consider the whole matter of parental notification a distraction from state business. As Rep. Liz Hager (R) said, "Let's get this expensive, unconstitutional problem behind us." However, the true expense will be the toll on innocent, human lives should the state erase a law that serves to give young girls pause about killing their unborn babies. Our friend Karen Testerman, head of New Hampshire's Cornerstone Policy Research, is circulating a petition in hopes of persuading elected officials--not to change their position on abortion, but to uphold parents' rights. Hi Glenn,
Thank you for your work and for your willingness to make physician-assisted suicide a matter of prayer and action. Below is a copy of the Vermont Alliance for Ethical Healthcare's current newsletter. Since we met this noon I have learned that a bill has also been introduced into the Senate, suggesting that the proponents of PAS are planning for the big push. So the need for prayer and action may be more urgent than I suspected.
Bob Orr
VAEH Newsletter # 41 January 2007
Dear Supporter of the Vermont Alliance for Ethical Healthcare,
As expected, the proponents of legalization of physician-assisted suicide in Vermont have introduced another bill (H-0044, available at http://www.leg.state.vt.us/docs/legdoc.cfm?URL=/docs/2008/bills/intro/H-044.HTM.HTM).
We have been successful in keeping similar bills from getting out of committee for the past 4 years. We anticipate this year to be the "bigpush" by proponents.
They have several factors on their side this year: (1) major financial backing from national "Death With Dignity" organizations such that they have hired several lobbyists, (2) significant changes in the VT legislature, (3) media bias in favor of PAS, and (4) fatigue on the part of those of us who oppose this measure. Their lobbyists have been able to put on TV ads and orchestrate multiple letters to the editor in various Vermont newspapers.
The VAEH is planning several ways to educate new legislators, including one-on-one meetings with key individuals, providing books to pertinent committee members, and providing DVD's with "Vermont Voices" to all new legislators.
But the real need is for a loud grass-roots voice to be heard by everyone (via letters to the editor) and especially by legislators (by personal contact, letters, e-mails, phone calls).
We cannot afford the expensive measures taken by proponents of PAS. So we rely on you to do this work for us. I expect you all know the reasons we oppose legalization of PAS, but if you need a refresher, visit our website: www.vaeh.org.
At this point, the key legislators who need to hear our concerns are those on the House Human Services Committee and the House Judiciary Committee (see below), regardless of whether you are in their district. And your own state Representatives and Senators need to hear from you; contact information can be found at: http://www.leg.state.vt.us/legdir/legdir2.htm.

VRLC PRAYER BREAKFAST

Here is a photo of me speaking with Dr. Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)
She is a Pro-life advocate who had 2 abortions, suffered post-Abortion trauma, and a consequent divorce and she says... abortion related breast cancer.
She shared that women who have had an abortion are 50 % more likely to get breast cancer later on in life.
She is now healed. She knows it was Jesus who healed her spirit, soul and body.
She preached the gospel and gave her testimony under the VT Capital at the recent Rally for Life in Montpelier. ~Glenn

South Dakota Will Try Again with a Newly Revised Bill to Ban Abortion
"Many people said the lack of exceptions was the reason they voted against last year's bill."
A newly revised version of the bill that would've banned abortion in South Dakota, turned down by voters last November, is scheduled to be presented on Tuesday. Polls have largely shown that the people in South Dakota are against abortion, however the total closure on the bill caused many to vote against the measure last November. So what's different this time? The new measure will include exceptions.
"Th
e additional exceptions for rape, incest and the health of women are what voters want," said state Rep. Mary Glenski, one of the new bill's sponsors. According to Glenski, voters are not tired of the issue. She said it makes sense to bring the issue back because most South Dakotans oppose abortion. "I feel a real responsibility to try and respond to what the voters told us after the election," said Glenski. "Many people said the lack of exceptions was the reason they voted against last year's bill." (Photo: Rep. Glenski)However Senator Brock Greenfield, director of Right to Life for South Dakota, believes it's a mistake to revive the issue until the upper courts show a serious swing in favor of creating more limitations on abortion. He has recently co-sponsored two anti-abortion bills that will require doctors to read a measure to a woman prior to an abortion that informs them it is illegal to be forced into an abortion. It will also require clear signs to be posted in clinics and hospitals stating the same message.

Hey Friends of the Unborn & LIFE ,
Yesterday, I spoke with Mary Hahn Beerworth of Vermont Right to Life. She told me that the Death with Dignity Bill or also known as Physician Assisted Suicide MAY pass the Vermont Legislature if we don't quickly act.
THIS IS NOT GOOD! WHERE HAVE WE CHRISTIANS BEEN?
Apparently most of us have been asleep at the wheel! Or should I say... WE (ME INCLUDED) have been in the back seat as a quiet passenger as the car (of Vermont's future for our children, disabled and elderly) is driven off the cliff!
"There are moments in history when a door for massive change opens. Great revolutions for good or evil occur in the vacuum created by these openings. It is in these times that key men and women, even entire generations, risk everything to become ... the hinge of history... that pivotal point that determines which way the door will swing. FRC Makes "Net" Gains
ON RU-486:
For nearly seven years, FRC has documented the health risks surrounding the abortion drug, RU-486--and the list continues to grow. We have taken our objections to Capitol Hill, to the Food and Drug Administration, and now to the Internet. As part of a campaign to inform the world about the dangers of this drug, FRC is unveiling a new website dedicated solely to RU-486, www.ru486info.com. This groundbreaking site will be an invaluable resource to the public, press, and health community who are seeking accurate news and information about the abortion drug. While we oppose the use of the RU-486 regimen because it ends a human life, we also believe that the legal and safety issues raised by the drug should be a matter of concern to all people of good conscience regardless of their opinions regarding abortion.

House Approves Unethical Embryonic Stem Cell Research Bill
Last week the U.S. House voted and passed this bill. There have been several recently publicized studies of Stem Cells with proven successes for treatments as alternatives to Embryonic Stem Cells!
While $$$ Millions have been spent through private and California funded studies on Embryonic Stem Cell research ... there has not been nearly the headway or the proven track record (as that of the alternatives) for treating patients who suffer from things like heart disease and cancer!
as well as... the continued controversy!
Many constituents believe that to use Embryonic Stem Cells is ending a life which could be emplanted to help other families. I'd say the leadership that continues to push ending the lives of those Embryonic Stem Cells in the name of advancement are...BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE!
~Let the Church pray~ Glenn Taylor
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CONTACT: J.P. Duffy, (866)FRC-NEWS
Washington, D.C. - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives approved federal funding for research that requires the destruction of human life.
Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council, issued the following statement:
"Rather than defend human dignity, the Democrat led House of Representatives approved legislation to compel U.S. taxpayers to fund research that requires the destruction of human embryos. The President is absolutely right to veto this legislation. "This bill is a bait and switch. It would not just fund so-called "leftover" embryos, it will create a market for creating and cloning more human embryos for the express purpose of killing them."
7/11/07
Today the House of Representatives will vote to force taxpayers to fund stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos, knowing full well that their efforts are as flawed as the research itself.
With President Bush vowing to veto the legislation, FRC is working with our friends on the Hill to insure the President's veto can be sustained. Last week, when scientists announced that cells from amniotic fluid were used as a successful and ethical alternative, the liberal reaction on Capitol Hill was further proof that Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) is more interested in advancing a culture of death than she is in helping patients by pursuing true cures.
Instead of celebrating the new studies, the leadership was quick to denounce it as "not enough." H.R. 3, if passed, would also mean that fewer dollars would be available for research that has a proven track record of treating patients who suffer from things like heart disease and cancer.
If supporters of embryonic stem cells research sincerely cared about patients, they would work to fully fund the cord blood bank that FRC helped to pass in a strong bipartisan fashion last Congress.
As the House decides the fate of H.R. 3, FRC will report tomorrow on how the newest "pro-life" Democrats voted in this first test of their campaign promises.
